Look At How Handsome My Face Is.
I mentioned in my last entry how hot I found it when Jeff was beaten up in Community. On further watching: Jeff seems to be injured quite a lot, doesn't he? He's always being beaten up or having his head slammed onto a desk or getting accidentally kicked in the face. I probably shouldn't enjoy it as much as I do. Keep it up, Jeff. Also, sorry. It's not that I don't like you; it's just that you're particularly attractive when you're in pain.
The paintball episode ('Modern Warfare') is a magnificent, magnificent thing. I really love the shot where Jeff wakes up, gets out of his car and makes his way across the abandoned grounds. Gave me a bit of a craving for a Silent Hill crossover, to be honest. (Or post-apocalyptic Community fanfiction, but then the episode itself more or less fulfilled that craving.)
I think, although I 'ship Jeff/Annie the most, I sort of 'ship Jeff/everyone. Which is great, because Jeff also 'ships Jeff/everyone. Hooray!
And then, after writing the above, I watched 'Pascal's Triangle Revisited', the first-series finale.
Forget Jeff/everyone: Jeff/Annie burning up my heart for ever. It was as if the final minute of that episode had been written specifically for me. Back in 2009 or 2010, as the writer penned the last few lines of the episode, she sighed, 'I wish I could just tell Riona she needs to watch this, but I don't want to spoil the fact that it was written specifically for her.' But she knew, somehow, she knew that two years later I would decide to give this Community thing a try.
Incidentally, I can't thank you guys enough for being as considerate as that writer with regard to spoilers. I had no idea that this episode would make all my Community-related dreams come true! It was an utterly delightful surprise. You are the best.
And Jeff and Annie have such great conversations! In that entire final exchange, they just felt so right for each other. It comes through in almost all of their one-on-one interactions, in fact. Annie is a humanising influence on Jeff, Jeff is a grounding influence on Annie, and I think Annie is the person Jeff seeks out when he needs to talk something serious through.
I hesitate to say they're perfect for each other. I think Annie is more or less perfect for Jeff, but Jeff, alas, is not perfect for anyone. But I think they are pretty fantastic together and, regardless of Jeff's occasional terrible-personings, I 'ship them with all of my heart.
Incidentally, I loved Jeff's little conflicted face and forced smile when Annie turned up to say goodbye. I kept rewinding to examine Jeff's expressions in all the scenes to do with Annie's departure, like an absolute freak. I can't help it, you guys; I just love them so much.
I can't imagine this is going to last, but it was a perfect perfect moment of television and will be shelved right next to the Josh-Tom hug of Waterloo Road in my heart (like that hug, the entire Jeff-Annie conversation and kiss had me making ridiculous high-pitched noises). Regardless of what happens in future episodes, I'm so glad I started watching this, just for that scene.
Oh no, what if this causes conflict between Annie and Britta? I hadn't thought of that! BRITTA, PLEASE WATCH THAT SCENE AND REALISE THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO STAND IN THE WAY OF SUCH PERFECT TELEVISION FOR RIONA.
(EDIT: I was so caught up in my delight at the Jeff/Annie that I forgot to mention my delight at Jeff speculating about weird foursomes involving two of him! YES JEFF PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GO LITERALLY FUCK YOURSELF. I hope someone's written that.)
So, yes, thumbs up to the first series of Community! I have very much enjoyed it and look forward to seeing more.
