Look At How Handsome My Face Is.

I mentioned in my last entry how hot I found it when Jeff was beaten up in Community. On further watching: Jeff seems to be injured quite a lot, doesn't he? He's always being beaten up or having his head slammed onto a desk or getting accidentally kicked in the face. I probably shouldn't enjoy it as much as I do. Keep it up, Jeff. Also, sorry. It's not that I don't like you; it's just that you're particularly attractive when you're in pain.

The paintball episode ('Modern Warfare') is a magnificent, magnificent thing. I really love the shot where Jeff wakes up, gets out of his car and makes his way across the abandoned grounds. Gave me a bit of a craving for a Silent Hill crossover, to be honest. (Or post-apocalyptic Community fanfiction, but then the episode itself more or less fulfilled that craving.)

I think, although I 'ship Jeff/Annie the most, I sort of 'ship Jeff/everyone. Which is great, because Jeff also 'ships Jeff/everyone. Hooray!

And then, after writing the above, I watched 'Pascal's Triangle Revisited', the first-series finale.

Forget Jeff/everyone: Jeff/Annie burning up my heart for ever. It was as if the final minute of that episode had been written specifically for me. Back in 2009 or 2010, as the writer penned the last few lines of the episode, she sighed, 'I wish I could just tell Riona she needs to watch this, but I don't want to spoil the fact that it was written specifically for her.' But she knew, somehow, she knew that two years later I would decide to give this Community thing a try.

Incidentally, I can't thank you guys enough for being as considerate as that writer with regard to spoilers. I had no idea that this episode would make all my Community-related dreams come true! It was an utterly delightful surprise. You are the best.

And Jeff and Annie have such great conversations! In that entire final exchange, they just felt so right for each other. It comes through in almost all of their one-on-one interactions, in fact. Annie is a humanising influence on Jeff, Jeff is a grounding influence on Annie, and I think Annie is the person Jeff seeks out when he needs to talk something serious through.

I hesitate to say they're perfect for each other. I think Annie is more or less perfect for Jeff, but Jeff, alas, is not perfect for anyone. But I think they are pretty fantastic together and, regardless of Jeff's occasional terrible-personings, I 'ship them with all of my heart.

Incidentally, I loved Jeff's little conflicted face and forced smile when Annie turned up to say goodbye. I kept rewinding to examine Jeff's expressions in all the scenes to do with Annie's departure, like an absolute freak. I can't help it, you guys; I just love them so much.

I can't imagine this is going to last, but it was a perfect perfect moment of television and will be shelved right next to the Josh-Tom hug of Waterloo Road in my heart (like that hug, the entire Jeff-Annie conversation and kiss had me making ridiculous high-pitched noises). Regardless of what happens in future episodes, I'm so glad I started watching this, just for that scene.

Oh no, what if this causes conflict between Annie and Britta? I hadn't thought of that! BRITTA, PLEASE WATCH THAT SCENE AND REALISE THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO STAND IN THE WAY OF SUCH PERFECT TELEVISION FOR RIONA.

(EDIT: I was so caught up in my delight at the Jeff/Annie that I forgot to mention my delight at Jeff speculating about weird foursomes involving two of him! YES JEFF PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GO LITERALLY FUCK YOURSELF. I hope someone's written that.)

So, yes, thumbs up to the first series of Community! I have very much enjoyed it and look forward to seeing more.

OH MAN, COMMUNITY IS SO DELIGHTFUL. \o/ IT MAKES ME HAPPY YOU ARE WATCHING.

Jeff/Annie is basically my forever OTP. Although I agree on sort of shipping Jeff/Everyone. Because everone on the show has a crush on Jeff (including Jeff).

I also kind of ship Troy/Abed/Annie. And Troy/Abed/Jeff. Weirdly not so much Troy/Abed/Annie/Jeff, although I could probably be persuaded. I basically ship everyone to a greater or lesser extent, because everyone is fantastic. Except Pierce. I am not fond of Pierce.

I HAD ACTUALLY FORGOTTEN THAT. Clearly it is time for me to do a season one rewatch.

Yeah, Community will do that to you. There was one episode that focussed on two characters and I was just sitting there going YESSSS SHIP SHIP SHIP ...wait WHAT??? Because, yeah. Not a couple I expected to like.

That was how I realised I was in love with Jeff/Annie, actually. The pairing had never occurred to me, and then Abed's film in the debate episode showed 'Jeff' and 'Annie' kissing and my reaction was '!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LET THAT REALLY HAPPEN'.
EXACTLY HOW I FIRST FELL FOR THEM \o/

(*stalks your other comments*)
Troy/Abed/Britta/Annie/Jeff(/Shirley if she wants to get involved, but it's probably a bit on the sinful side for her)(/NOT PIERCE, PIERCE CAN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE)
TBH, this is probably actually my joint OTP for the show. I will never stop loving Jeff/Annie, but... everyone<33333.

SO I GUESS CONGRATS ON YOUR FLAWLESS TASTE, TOO. :D

I've never seen Community, so when you said Jeff/Annie, I started picturing Jeff from Coupling dating Annie from Being Human.

Then I died from adorableness!

[identity profile] wolfy-writing.livejournal.com 2012-05-09 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Jeff from Coupling is pretty adorable himself, in a deeply dorktastic "Always says the worst possible thing" way.

I do quite like character/self! You remember correctly!

Maybe there can be a four-person relationship with Annie and Jeff and Being Human Annie and Coupling Jeff?

Community ships Jeff/Everyone and Everyone/Everyone. It's wonderful. And I completely forgot about the foursome line. Jeff is the ultimate in ego and I LOVE HIM ANYWAY. But ANNIE! ANNIE IS MY MOST FAVORITE TV FEMALE OF THE MOMENT. She only gets more AWESOME as things go.

Also, paaaaaaaaaiiiintball.

I do like the way Annie makes Jeff actually think about his actions and how terrible they can be, and that Jeff's attempts to puncture Annie's optimism just make her stronger... though I don't 'ship them much. I guess ultimately I fall on the "Jeff, alas, is not perfect for anyone" side of things. Annie can do way better. *coughTroyandAbedcough*

Anyway, keep watching! There's more awesome to come!

Heh, it was actually quite hard not to go: You like Jeff/Annie, WELL GUESS WHAT? Because so rarely in shows do little seeds of subtext grow into actual THINGS (and then it tends to be Whedon and then a load of people die and I start wishing there was more status quo after all) *g*

I hear it gets even better (as a series in general, I have no idea about the ships) as it goes on - I wish series 2 would get a UK release!

It's moments like Jeff/Annie and Everybody except Pierce/Everybodyexcept Pierce (and others later on in the series) which make me love this show so much. As well as the wonderful friendship that Troy and Ahbed have.

BRITTA, PLEASE WATCH THAT SCENE AND REALISE THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO STAND IN THE WAY OF SUCH PERFECT TELEVISION FOR RIONA.
This made me laugh so much.

You enjoyed the Real Hustle, what about the Real Victorian Hustle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRJYw7YPd10)?

Considering how often it comes up that throughout history, people washed things with wee and poop, agreed.

Hi, I'm rereading your old Community entries, and I just wanted to say that I'd been having many thoughts on Jeff Winger and What Breaks Him (...I have kind of a creepy approach to writing), and then you mentioned Silent Hill, and I have suddenly had the most horrible ideas for where to go and what roles the different members of the group might play and it would probably not be good to destroy a fanfic version of Jeff when I just figured out a couple of moderately-traumatic-but-ultimately-uplifiting fanfic possibilities which I should really start writing.
