I Dreamt Last Night Of Light Strangling Me, Possibly Because I Keep Saying Things Like This.
Who wants more thoughts on the subject of Light Yagami masturbating? Nobody, but somehow here we are. Light is not a particularly sexual being; I'm not sure why my mind has fixated on this subject!
Unfortunately, my previous entry about Light Yagami masturbating did not get all my thoughts on the subject out of my system. I'm now picturing a scenario in which Light bites the bullet and actually goes for it in front of the hidden cameras, knowing he's being watched, rather than just dispassionately studying soft porn magazines.
Soichiro, of course, would go 'we can't watch this!' and would be deeply shocked by L's response of 'you can leave if you prefer, but I need to watch this footage for clues'. His son is not Kira, and, even if he were, surely you wouldn't be able to determine that by watching him in this private moment!
Light, meanwhile, ferociously tries to stay focused on masturbating in a way that doesn't make him look like a murderer, while also not looking like he knows someone's watching.
Ryuk, naturally, provides unhelpful commentary. Perhaps the most annoying aspect of having the cameras there is the fact that Light can't tell him to shut up.

Light basically treats Ryuk as his mildly obnoxious but loveable talking pet. It's kind of great.
L asking Light to play the role of Kira in their fake video! What a little shit. I love it. And I love that Light is a little shit in return by writing a message that would get L killed and then going 'pfft, just a joke'.
I love how, when L criticises a move Kira makes, Light leaps to explain why it was actually exactly the right strategic decision. Not that Light is invested in having people believe that Kira is really smart, of course. But, just so you know, Kira is really smart. If Light were Kira, which he's not, he'd do the same thing.
L absolutely drives Light up the wall in every scene they have together. It's a delight.
I feel so sorry for Light when he has amnesia. Just a bewildered, suffering piece in his own game. Light will use anyone as a pawn, himself included. He gets himself imprisoned for at least fifty days, and for over forty of those days he thinks he's innocent and being framed.
And then he's handcuffed to L for over two months, which is just hilarious. What a sitcom premise. They must have got to know each other so intimately, or at least as intimately as you can when one of you is extremely private and the other has significant parts of his memory missing, which is still more intimately than they're used to knowing anyone.
I don't think either of them would suffer if they refrained from masturbation for a few months, so you're spared further musing on that front. But I stand by my headcanon that they have to share a bed while handcuffed, and that L sleeps in disconcertingly weird positions.
When he sleeps at all, that is. The first few nights, whenever Light wakes up, L is still perched on the side of the bed with a laptop. Eventually, Light expresses mild concern; if L never sleeps, how is he supposed to investigate with a clear head?
The fourth night, Light wakes to find L sleeping face-down with his head dangling off the side of the bed, his arms trailing on the floor and his legs across Light's ankles. It is not an improvement.

L and Light have a very specific kind of perfection together! Healthy? No! Happy? Sporadically and inconsistently. But utterly amazing? Yes!

As something of a side note to your current Death Note-athon, I really strongly recommend the 2015 TV drama. I wrote about it some years ago when I watched it, and while my post totally spoils it, it has some absolutely fascinating takes on the material. Particularly Light's family life - the dynamic with Soichiro is very different, in a way that I've always found really compelling.
Unfortunately I have no idea where to watch it these days, but! Strong recommend if you haven't seen it.

In case you don't have a way to play Blu-ray discs (I'm using the PS4), I also took a look at the DVD listing (over here). The product description says it has 'original Japanese and English audio and English subtitles', so it sounds like the language options are the same in both formats.
If you do end up watching it, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts! (Not exclusively your thoughts relating to Light Yagami's masturbation habits, although obviously you should bring any musings on that subject straight to me.)
