rionaleonhart: final fantasy x-2: the sun is rising, yuna looks to the future. (they watch)

Also, Robot Dorothy.

I HAVE THE INTERNET.

The Internet-connection cable was being sold in the university bookshop, so obviously every student in Sussex had gone down there to buy it. When she realised that I was buying books as well as the cable, the assistant actually did a little flail. I immediately adored her.

I am in my room at the moment. It doesn't feel like home, but it doesn't feel like Hell, either. I haven't really got my head around the fact that I am actually going to be living here, but I think I might cope.

Last night, I met a girl who knew nothing about fanfiction but quickly became interested in the concept. Barely an hour after I had started explaining it to her, we were discussing the possibility of the Master raising a Jigglypuff while hanging out with Professor Moriarty. I don't think starts get much more auspicious than that.

I love you all so much.

I have not yet tried to introduce my flatmates to fanfic, although I may breach the subject of my huge, retarded and undying love for a certain Mr May soon.

ALSO YAY YOU ARE AT UNI YAY YAY

Oh dear... It seems like you have a new and very large collection of potential victims to seduce into your wicked ways now.

Be afraid, world--Riona is raising an army of fandom crackfiends to do her bidding...

[identity profile] draegonhawke.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That doesn't sound like something we should be afraid of, per se.

[identity profile] madmogs.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I dunno. It's like zombies, really. Zombies are cool and funny, and there's no plot that they can't rescue from rubbishness, but when you've got twenty of them clawing at your front door then you've got a slight problem on your hands.

Heh. No, it's cool. If you want me I'll be hiding under the bench in the cellar.

[identity profile] draegonhawke.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Well, I guess if the Internet crashes due to an unexpected preponderance of mad crossovers we'll know who to blame....

[identity profile] draegonhawke.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hooray! What are your accommodations like? Shared-room? Private rooms, shared bathrooms? Suite-style, dorm-style? Bunkbeds, single beds?

It comes to feel like home surprisingly quickly, really. My Freshman year, I was in single-room dorm with another student who was practically the opposite of me in every way, but we got along great. We rearranged the furniture to feel comfortable, filled the walls with posters and the desks with knickknacks, and in no time flat it was messy and homely and wonderful. (You did bring posters, right? If not, I'm sure the masses of your Friendslist will send you some. Heck, we'll make you some, that's how cool we are.)

[identity profile] draegonhawke.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, [livejournal.com profile] kadrin and I discussed what sort of Pokémon the Master would have. I can't remember what we decided, but we did think that he and Mewtwo would be drinking buddies. (They'd get together and mock lower species and occasionally destroy all humanity.)

Also? I want an Umbreon.

[identity profile] draegonhawke.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oho, you have a kitchen? That's nicer than my dorms were! I shall have to send you recipes for things cheap and easy to make!

Wait, not allowed at all? In my dorm you could put up posters anywere, just not with pins unless they were on corkboard. Sticky-tack was fine.

Oftentimes, as long as the room passes whatever end-of-year-check-out-inspection-thing they have, people really don't care. (And, hey, if people complain, you can always say "I found the glue residue unsightly and wanted to cover it up, and look, my stuff comes off without a mark." That's another thing to keep in mind; most if not all of the people you'll be dealing with are human, and are willing to flex. Even in a gigantic organization like a university. All the rules are intimidating, but most people will work with you to make everythign run smoothly and pleasantly.)

22nd September: Riona begins describing fanfiction to new acquaintance.

1st October: Entire university engaged in writing crackfic.

Glad you're settling in, and if there's anything we can do to make it more homely for you? :)

Heee! I remember my utter and unparalleled delight at finding people whom I could corrupt (though I do remember being very reticent about giving [livejournal.com profile] linakitten my LJ name, because I was terrified that she would be disgusted at the idea of Top Gear slash. Bwahah).
Glad things seem to be going okay :D
