I've decided to take a couple of the fandoms that I've never been involved in or experienced the original canon of, and see what I have picked up about them from Livejournal. You can see what I've gleaned and laugh hysterically about how inaccurate it is. Hurrah!
The writers of Smallville try desperately to make Clark Kent seem straight. They find this somewhat difficult, as Clark and some guy named Lex (who is either his arch-enemy or his best friend, or possibly both) have so much chemistry that whenever they're both on-screen together every television showing Smallville steams up.
Lex is probably straight. This does not stop him from having sex with Clark.
In fact, the whole show is secretly about Clark/Lex, but the writers pretend it isn't.
Also, the only way Superman can have a child is by carrying it himself. I mention this only because it's a point that seems to come up in every Superman-related discussion I come across.
Revolutionary Girl Utena may or may not be the best show ever.
Saionji is a bastard. Touga is a worse bastard. Akio is the bastardliest bastard of all; in fact, his official title is 'bastard bastard bastard', as in 'that bastard bastard bastard Akio is such a bastard'. Well, now that word has lost all meaning.
Everyone has pretty hair. The music is cool. Angry/determined Utena is one of the coolest things in the world. Dios may or may not be some kind of deity. Anthy has Looking Depressed down to a fine art.
Touga and Saionji have a fantastic 'grr!' dynamic. This makes them hot (although they are also hot as individuals).
Akio is some kind of weird puppetmaster guy. He possibly shags his sister, and definitely shags his car. Nobody can mention Akio in any fanfic-related community without someone bringing up his car, and nobody can mention 'the Akio car' without someone linking to an interesting fic called Convertible Is My Long-Cherished Desire. I should probably link to it here. BUT I WON'T. No, wait, actually I will!
There are duels. There are roses. These things may or may not be connected.
Utena is in love with another woman. Everyone in the world knows this apart from one person, who is an idiot.
I should totally watch this show.
On an utterly unrelated note, I've gone back to playing Pokémon Red. (You know when I said that Spyro was my first videogame love? I lied. It was definitely Pokémon.) I bring this up only to say that Cloyster and Dodrio are fantastic. Why does nobody else ever use them?

Makes you wonder what people are picking up from us about our fandoms. "So, Seifer and Zell either hate each other or are an OTP 4EVR... Squall is best friends with something or someone called 'Pyramid Head'...."
