Life Is Like A Bee That You Can't Follow.
WELCOME BACK, SUPERNATURAL. OH HOW I HAVE MISSED YOU.
Wow, I wasn't expecting Dean to come back so quickly. I actually thought he was still in Hell when he woke up; I thought Hell was putting him through the nightmare of being buried alive, and then when the camera zoomed out I thought that Hell had let him crawl out of the grave only to strand him on a little island of grass in the middle of literal nowhere, and then when he found the shop I thought that Hell was creating the illusion that he had escaped just to rip it away (the lack of scarring, absence of people and SUDDEN SILENT HILL ELECTRONICS BEHAVIOUR OH NO certainly didn't seem to contradict this belief), and then when he called Bobby I thought Dean might have found himself in a world in which he never existed, and then when he met Bobby I thought Bobby was just a Hell-created illusion, and it took Bobby realising it was actually Dean and hugging him for me to start thinking that, okay, maybe this wasn't Hell.
I am surprised and pleased that Dean has not become a demon! Sam, on the other hand, appears to be going down a worrying road.
I have to say I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get a few episodes of Ruby possessing Dean's body. Because that would have been amazing. (I'm not sure I like the new Ruby. I really loved Katie Cassidy's Ruby, and now the new Ruby says things I can't imagine Cassidy's Ruby saying and makes expressions I can't imagine Cassidy's Ruby making, and that troubles me. I mean, I'm glad Ruby the character is still around, but I miss Cassidy. New Ruby seems too earnest, somehow. Cassidy's Ruby took trouble with a roll of her eyes; New Ruby makes a very serious face and speaks with too much emphasis. But the other demons seemed fairly freaked out by Castiel, so maybe that's deliberate? I SHALL TRY TO FORGIVE YOU FOR BEING NEITHER CASSIDY NOR ACKLES, NEW RUBY, AND THEN I PROMISE I'LL GIVE YOU A CHANCE.)
Also, I'd have liked to see more of Sam going insane over his brother's death. I suppose we got that from Mystery Spot, but still. Perhaps there will be flashbacks?
That said, it was an excellent episode! I was thoroughly gripped, and then it ended and I went WHAT WHAT IT'S OVER ALREADY? It looks like we could have a very interesting season ahead of us! Also, I am intrigued by the demons with the burnt-out eyes and the dead hosts. Castiel tells us that he tried to warn the medium not to look upon his true form, but has he been killing demons without regard for the people they're possessing? THAT'S NOT VERY ANGELIC, DUDE. (Also, I don't trust anyone who makes electronics go all Silent Hill.)
OH OH ALSO: WINCHESTER HUGS. MUTUAL WINCHESTER HUGS. WINCHESTERS HUGGING WINCHESTERS WHO ARE HUGGING BACK. ABOUT BLOODY TIME.
Also also: ahahaha, I loved Bobby throwing holy water over Dean. BOBBY. HOW ARE YOU SO AWESOME?
Also also also: about half my flist seem to think that the girl Sam was probably shagging was Ruby. I didn't think so when I first watched, but now, looking back at the scenes, I honestly can't tell. Stupid low lighting in the Ruby-talking-to-Sam scene. Stupid inability to recognise faces. The idea of Sam probably shagging Ruby is intriguing, and Sam sharing a hotel room with her makes sense, but wouldn't Ruby have had a more surprised reaction upon opening the door to Dean? And why the 'Kelly.' 'Chrissie' exchange if she's actually Ruby? I'M SO CONFUSED.
