Why Do All Our Conversations Come Back To Paedophilia?

When I was in Manchester with sazzlette and wanttobeatree, they forced me at what I'm going to say was gunpoint to watch One Tree Hill. This is an American drama about high school students and how basketball TEARS FAMILIES APART and IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER and also about the evils of drugs and alcohol and partying and tattoos and infidelity and, gasp, safe sex. There is an average of one car crash every four episodes. It is ridiculous. It is also terribly, terribly addictive.

So far, I have seen thirteen episodes, up to 'Hanging by a Moment'. Here are some thoughts:

- Lucas is adorable. Adorable! (I still find Chad Michael Murray hilarious for no good reason.)

- I would be up for some Nathan/Lucas. It doesn't really feel like incest - they weren't raised together, after all - and so there's room for all the fun 'augh this is so wrong' feelings on the parts of the characters without violating my usual 'I CANNOT DESTROY THIS SIBLING RELATIONSHIP WITH INCEST' block. This is not helped by the fact that Lucas, in an episode in which he was kissing someone he really should not have been kissing, said, 'You know, that this is wrong... somehow it makes it feel deeper.' LUCAS IS DRAWN TOWARDS WRONGNESS, GUYS. LUCAS/NATHAN. YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE.

- wanttobeatree, sazzlette and I had a brief discussion about Lucas the sparkly vampire, who angsts about no longer being able to play basketball because oh no he is too strong. I would not be surprised were this an actual episode. (This is a lie.)

- I would rather like to see a Supernatural episode in which they investigate a haunted high school and meet the One Tree Hill cast, playing thinly-disguised versions of their One Tree Hill characters. They could be called things like 'Leyton' and 'Snucas'.

- I am pretty massively 'shipping Lucas/Peyton. wanttobeatree is horrified.



- I suspect that Keith has a really embarrassing tattoo, hence his anger when Lucas gets a tattoo himself. 'I DID NOT WANT YOU TO RUIN YOUR LIFE AS I HAVE RUINED MINE.' Perhaps he has Lucas' face tattooed on his arse.

- I had to leave for the train home after the end of 'Hanging by a Moment' and so do not yet know the outcome of the car crash. wanttobeatree asked me what I thought of the cliffhanger.

'I'll be surprised if they've killed Lucas,' I said. 'Unless he's a ghost for the next six seasons.'

Imagine. The Winchesters could investigate! The other characters of One Tree Hill would have to protect ghost!Lucas from them! It would be excellent!

wanttobeatree suggests that perhaps the reveal will come at the end of the current season. 'YOU'VE BEEN A GHOST ALL THESE YEARS.'

I...hadn't actually thought about Lucas/Nathan! My slash pairing of choice here is Peyton/Hayley, but that's because they're both really pretty. I quite like Peyton/Brooke as well. WRITE SOME LUCAS/NATHAN SO I CAN COMMENT ON IT AND TELL YOU THAT IT'S AWESOME. ♥

I cannot write Lucas/Nathan at the moment, because I have only watched a few episodes and because I have not written anything for months and am now appallingly rusty (seriously, I tried to write a snippet of the pairing and it was so rubbish I wanted to cry), but perhaps I shall attempt it when I have watched more. BUT HOW AM I TO WATCH MORE? I SHALL JUST HAVE TO HOPE THAT THE DVDS MYSTERIOUSLY TURN UP AT MY DOOR, DEFINITELY NOT ORDERED BY ME OR ANYTHING, MAYBE THEY GOT THE WRONG ADDRESS, I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT.

About three or four of the girls on my corridor at Royal Holloway are absolutely *hooked* on One Tree Hill, and I'm not sure whether I want to join them or avoid it lest I get sucked into the basketball related horrors which will obviously make me want to cross it over with High School Musical. I've said too much.

Incidentally, there's a U2 song called One Tree Hill, which is very sad and lovely and makes me inappropriately sway back and forth, as many of their songs do. This, of course, means that I'll always link the two together, which might be very wrong.

I have to confess that I spend all the basketball sequences in One Tree Hill playing 'Now or Never' in my head. It improves them immensely.

I'd encourage you to join them and see whether One Tree Hill holds any appeal for you, but that's just because I like it when people can understand my journal entries.

I saw the DVD set for OTH in Wal*Mart the other day when I was trying to see if they had Psych DVD's (they didn't) and CMM was on the cover and I immediately burst out laughing. The girl who works electronics at night gave me the oddest look.

I was hoping for the Lucas/Nathan at first too, but then I got all wrapped up in the canon relationships and forgot about the potential gay incest. What has become of me?

I, too, have a weekness for OTH. It's one of the most addicting things ever. And wait until you get to the episodes where Pete Wentz guest stars. They're seriously hilarious.
