Why'd You Take A Picture?

Eight months late, I've caught up on the fifth series of Supernatural.

Crowley, you are my favourite. He's a deceitful bastard, but he's paradoxically, delightfully straightforward about it. (He and Derren Brown should hang out.) And he's sardonic and flirtatious and a little bit charming, and I think he may end up being one of those characters I 'ship with basically everyone (ESPECIALLY BOBBY, WHERE IS MY BOBBY/CROWLEY FANFICTION). I love him.

(Although the way Crowley is written confuses me sometimes, because he has an English accent and the writers seem to consciously have him using British language - 'this bloody ring business' - and then he'll use the occasional American turn of phrase. It's a bit jarring, that's all. It doesn't mean I don't want to marry you, Crowley, demon of my heart.)

It's odd; I used to love the Winchester brothers so much, but over the past couple of series I've become much more interested in the recurring supernatural beings of Supernatural. Ruby, Castiel, Crowley: these are the figures that hold my interest. It's not that I dislike Sam and Dean, but I certainly don't adore them any more. It's a little sad, really. I miss loving the Winchesters.

On the plus side, I love how Castiel's character has settled. He was a little inconsistent at first, but now the writers seem to have decided to go with Perpetually Slightly Bewildered Castiel, who is my favourite type of Castiel. He is adorable. Never stop being confused by the world, Castiel!

ALSO ON THE PLUS SIDE, WE HAVE CROWLEY.

I want a series in which Crowley and Ruby drive around and... I don't know. Work towards some goal? Their goals in canon oppose each other, which causes a slight problem. Maybe a series in which Crowley and Ruby are enemies in theory, working towards separate and opposing goals, but they also get along famously. Sometimes they try to kill each other; sometimes they just have sex. Oh, my goodness, this would be the best thing ever. There should be fanfiction.

He's meant to be Scottish? Goodness me. I thought something was a bit wonky about his accent in his first episode, but I hadn't realised the wonky thing was that it was from the wrong country.

Yep, I think his original name was Fergus Roderick McCloud. No idea how he ended up with the English accent, unless everyone down in Hell speaks that way and it's years of osmosis. Maybe they figured American audience wouldn't know the difference, since Scotland = British = English, right?

partly because mark sheppard, partly because, y'know. his name is crowley and he's a demon, obviously someone had been reading good omens when they made him.

i'm tempted to watch season five just for crowley and all the archangels to be honest, because i've seen the scene where gabriel gets killed and oh, i love the dialogue. "you're my brother, and i love you, but you're a great big bag of dicks."

GABRIEL IS A DELIGHT.

Do you really not watch Supernatural? I always thought you did, for some reason. Jumping in on the fifth season may be a bit confusing, but I'm not going to dissuade you from checking Supernatural out, because I think there's a good chance you'll become a fan.

I watched the first series (on your reccomendation, actually!) last year, but I ran out of space on my computer and deleted the rest, and by this point I probably know half the plot points of this season anyway (thankyou, inconsiderate icon makers).

I might pick it up again, but it's finding the time to watch it that's the problem. I guess I'm too used to nice tiny british series with their six (or eight, or thirteen) episodes each.

When you start watching Season 6, don't be disheartened by the first 3 episodes. It gets better. It gets SO MUCH BETTER.

It's just kind of a WTF because of a new mode to the show, right, so it takes a bit of getting used to. The first episodes kinda sucked to watch but then it just got absolutely hilarious. You love Crowley, you'll LOVE this season.

The third episode is AMAZING for Casfans though :)

There's one episode where Crowley mentions his vessel, saying he's a literary agent from New York. I guess the inconsistency with his accent could be attributed to that.

TBH though I would probably use go kick/go and kick pretty interchangeably, but being from Manchester probably renders that moot. We usually opt for grunts rather than words :D

I'm sorry for neglecting your dialect! There are so many in the UK that it's probably silly of me to dismiss any aspect of Crowley's speech as inappropriately American. Plus I don't know how long he's actually been living in America; he could easily have picked aspects of the dialect up.

Bobby/Crowley never took off? I am so saddened to hear this. They kissed in canon! Crowley is so wonderfully flirty! Why have you failed me, Supernatural fandom?

Crowley is GREAT. Evil and so damn likeable for some inexplicable reason. (And also another character that I hoped was Aleister Crowley in a past life and wasn't).

I agree with ladybella about the sixth season. I spent the first few episodes in a "this has totally jumped the shark, should have ended at season four" mode (although I still like it, I just didn't love it)but oh. my. god, I am now re-invested in the Winchesters and Supernatural and I NEED for there to be more right now.

Yes! How does he manage to be so likeable? I need to find out exactly what the quality is that allows a character to turn up and win my heart in seconds.

Also, you're making me terribly excited about watching more.

The gif is from a behind the scenes bit they filmed for the episode that Jensen Ackles directed. The episode is (I think 6.04) Weekend at Bobby's which is a whole episode from Bobby's POV and is awesome. It shows Bobby going about trying to get his soul back. :D

Crowley is awesome, and would be perfect with Derren Brown.

I still want Ruby and possibly-a-demon-now Bela to have a giant roadtrip, but Crowley can definitely be in the car. Maybe the Winchesters are incapacitated in some way, and they and Castiel form the "Save the world, or possibly not" party where they all have to find the Big Magic Thing and Castiel and Crowley are on the same side for pragmatic reasons, Ruby's plotting a last-minute betrayal, and no one's sure what side Bela's on?

Possibly With Added Bobby to call them all idiots and be sexually confused by Crowley?

I am in favour of all of these things (with the possible exception of Winchester-incapacitation, but if it is necessary for this scenario please feel free to incapacitate away). Having Bobby included at some point for Crowley to flirt with is absolutely necessary. I would so read this fic.

Temporary Winchester-incapacitation. I would say "happy fluffy nice Winchester-incapacitation", but they're used to stuff like "Have a lovely dream together" and "Get to imagine the life you wished you had" being massively horrifying, so possibly the most merciful thing would be to give them each a nasty stomach virus.

I really need to catch up. I'd forgotten that I loved SPN as much as I do, really. Which is strange.

Ah, ummm...I am positive that you don't actually know me, but I stumbled on your journal and saw Crowley + Bobby thoughts, and I had to comment. SO.

I always thought that Crowley was like a person whose first language was something like...Finnish, and then learned English from a textbook that didn't cover the difference between British English and American-isms. ~~Hell totally gives language lessons to demons before they go topside. I went through my period of weaving around through my favorite characters, (Samn'Dean, Castiel, Bela, Ruby, Bobby, Ellen...etc) but after a ~wonderous~ three day series marathon over break, my character!love has kind of just melted down into this big puddle of general love for everyone. It's very therapeutic, actually.

I can completely picture Ruby and Crowley getting along swimmingly. For some reason, I can see them eating at some over priced restaurant and Ruby forcing him to pay for her after she'd ordered the most expensive things on the menu. And Crowley, being the gentleman that he is, pays up and then snarks about it the rest of the night. IDEK what my brain does anymore.

I'd love to read one. It would insult the reader viciously on every page. (Alternatively, perhaps his first language was English, but too long a time in Hell caused him to forget most of it.)

YOU LIKE BELA AND RUBY. Please stay; not nearly enough people do! I wish they had interacted with each other at some point. Although not quite as much as I wish that of Ruby and Crowley.

The Hell!Textbooks would be like those really old fashioned school books that had diagrams next to all of the sentences. On how to cause murder and mayhem. I always liked both Bela and Ruby! Though I admit Ruby's interactions with Sam made me angry sometimes...but they were both very, very awesome. In my mind they're riding around in a hot stolen sports car, being snarky and awesome. (This is the section of my mind that denies 67% of angst on the show.)

The thing about cannon is that it has a habit of bringing in all of these super amazing characters, but in different seasons. :( I would love a 'locked room/island' episode, where all of the cool characters were stuck together with no way to avoid each other. Alas, 'tis but a pipe dream.

The more I think about it, the more sense demons having language lessons in Hell before they return to the world seems to make. It would certainly explain why practically every demon on the show seems to have exactly the same speech patterns.
