STEEL CAGE POKÉMON BATTLE I GUESS? RESULT
Mar. 9th, 2011 07:38 pmIt's taken me a while to get around to making this entry, but Vulpix is the official winner of the Steel Cage Pokémon Battle I Guess?! Cubone put up an admirable fight, but Vulpix took the final round by thirty-three votes to twenty.
Or, in other words:

I ended up voting against Vulpix in most rounds, which is odd because I actually think Vulpix is great! My reasoning tended to end up being 'All right, here are two Pokémon I love a roughly equal amount. Which should I vote for? I SUPPOSE THE ONE THAT DIDN'T GO OFF TO BE EXCLUSIVE TO BLUE VERSION, LIKE A DICK.'
(The exception to this reasoning was the final round; I probably do actually like Vulpix more than Cubone, but I voted for Cubone largely because I was so impressed that it had managed to squeeze past Pikachu into the finals. I can never resist a spirited underdog. Well, all right, that round and the round in which Vulpix was up against Bulbasaur, who is my favourite.)
But, despite being exclusive to the wrong version, Vulpix is an adorable six-tailed fire-breathing fox cub! Its HeartGold Pokédex entry describes it as 'warm and cuddly'! It will set fire to your possessions and then gaze at you with huge endearing eyes until you are forced to forgive it! A worthy winner, I feel.
(Vulpix is also a Pokémon that suits many, many fictional characters. Running a quick search of my journal entries, I find that I've assigned it to Morgana of Merlin, Fernando Sucre of Prison Break, Kurt Hummel of Glee, Jessica Fisher of Waterloo Road, Wayne Rigsby of The Mentalist, Iroh of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Richard Hammond of Top Gear (who, all right, is only half-fictional). Only Eevee has proved more versatile. What we can learn from this is that - well, all right, what we can learn from this is that I spend too much time talking about what Pokémon various characters would have, but that was always fairly obvious. Iroh has a Vulpix; Iroh is amazing; therefore, Vulpix is amazing. Solid fact.)
Thank you so much to everyone who voted and campaigned! I had great fun hosting this. NOW SOMEBODY DO IT FOR THE SECOND GENERATION. (EDIT: Wow, I wasn't expecting that to actually work, but
dev_chieftain has taken it up! The first Generation II poll is over here.)
