rionaleonhart: top gear: the start button on a bugatti veyron. (going down tonight)
Okay, I officially have far too many half-finished fics lying around. I'm going to go through my 'Unfinished Fanfiction' folder and list what I have in there, so I can see at a glance what's on the to-write pile. If anything catches your fancy, feel free to ask about it or just verbally kick me until it's finished. Listed in descending order of present wordcount.

It seems I have fiction on the go for about twenty different fandoms. I think this is a sign that I officially have too many fandoms.

(Regarding the Peep Show/Harry Potter AU: I know I once said it was impossible to write Peep Show fanfiction with a pre-adulthood Mark Corrigan, but I have since changed my stance. Writing Peep Show fanfiction in which the principal characters are eleven really makes no difference to their personalities whatsoever, in the case of one because he was essentially born thirty and in the case of the other because he retains the mentality of an eleven-year-old for the next twenty-five years.)

What I've realised about my writing habits recently - and this is the reason behind a couple of the 'unlikely to be finished' notes - is that I find it easiest to motivate myself to write if I feel I'm writing something nobody will have done before. It's why I'm able to write canon-compliant stories for Peep Show, whilst my Kurt/Blaine fics for Glee are always bizarre AUs: there's barely any fanfiction for the former, so anything I write will be new, whereas with Kurt/Blaine, a popular pairing in a popular fandom, it's difficult to find a concept that hasn't already been written.

...also, er, this isn't in my Unfinished Fanfiction folder, but I just came across it in my notebook:

"Gotter Rattata," William said, proudly. "An' Henry's got a Weedle an' Douglas's got a Spearow an' Ginger's not got anythin' yet, so we're catchin' somethin' for him now."

Why - why did I start writing a Just William/Pokémon crossover?

Passing on a recommendation from [livejournal.com profile] kadrin: Iji is an excellent little free action-platformer. What really tempted me to play it was the fact that, if you choose to go through it whilst killing as few enemies as possible, the game recognises that and responds: the notes you find from enemies say 'hmmm, not sure what's going on with that human, she doesn't seem to be killing anyone' rather than 'oh God oh God she's going to destroy us all'; the dialogue in cutscenes is different. My housemate thinks I'm mad for downloading a shooter-platformer and then going 'YAY NOT SHOOTING ANYONE', but I think it's a rather nice touch. Also, the music is great, and I love reading all the logbooks.

I have a strange urge to write Satoshi/Daisuke DN Angel fanfiction. Here is the difficulty with Satoshi/Daisuke: writing something cute and fluffy and requited (and also a bit creepy, because Satoshi is involved, but mostly cute) is tempting, but it is almost impossible when Satoshi could snog Daisuke until his tongue broke off and Daisuke would still probably think he was just being friendly.

BE LESS OBLIVIOUS, DAISUKE.

The other difficulty is, of course, my complete inability to write anything lately. There are so many things I want to write! Why have you abandoned me, words?

Actually, here is a meme that may help! (Or not!)

Post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

Let's see what we have here.

rionaleonhart: kingdom hearts: sora, riku and kairi having a friendly chat. (and they returned home)
I am in London for the weekend, because I forgot an important and expensive textbook (and also crockery and cutlery and pots and pans and all things kitchen-related, but let us not talk about my incompetence. SOMETIMES I FORGET THAT I NEED TO EAT), and therefore: Internet! Hello! I have missed you all!

At the moment, I am living in a rather nice maisonette with a Law undergraduate, a Neuroscience PhD student and a small black cat named Beatrice. I bake brownies. We watch One Tree Hill. I am a little fandom-starved, living amongst normal people and without Internet access, and as the surroundings are unfamiliar I am constantly walking into them, but I'm pretty happy at the moment.

(I have received a letter from Gary of Pokémon and a card from Oz and James, which have helped with the fandomlessness enormously. Thank you so much to the lovely people who were kind enough to forward them to me!)

Oh, Fox, I'm away for a few days and you cancel Prison Break? I didn't have Internet access! My lack of updates about it isn't because I don't lovehate it any more! What sort of mad network bases its decisions on a single Livejournal, anyway?

Actually, it's probably for the best. Prison Break should really have ended after the first season. But then there would have been no Mahone, and Mahone is, of course, amazing, so I'm glad it wasn't cut off at a sensible point. I just hope they can give it a reasonably good ending. Haven't seen any of the fourth season yet, so I don't know what the odds of that are.

(Speaking of Mahone: the night after [livejournal.com profile] th_esaurus informed me of Prison Break's cancellation, I dreamt that I ruined William Fichtner's marriage. I SWEAR I DIDN'T HAVE SEX WITH HIM, MRS FICHTNER, I THOUGHT WE WERE JUST FRIENDS, I DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS CREEPILY AND UNHEALTHILY IN LOVE WITH ME. The night before, I dreamt that the Top Gear trio travelled back in time to Victorian London. Perhaps my unconscious mind is trying to make up for the lack of fandom in my waking hours.)

The things that come up when I restore the saved Livejournal draft are occasionally rather alarming. This time, I had written that I would not be uninterested in reading Tom/Jerry. Yes, that Tom and Jerry. What, self? What?
rionaleonhart: final fantasy x-2: the sun is rising, yuna looks to the future. (I APPROVE)
- Thank you so much for your contributions to the happiness post! I'll try to go through and comment on them in the next couple of days. I think - I think - that I may have a home for the next term. Fingers crossed!

- Watching the early season four House episodes is a very different experience when you know which fellows are the important ones. TAUB WAS ALMOST ARBITRARILY FIRED IN HIS FIRST EPISODE. I ALMOST SHOUTED 'NOOOOOOOO' DESPITE KNOWING HOW THINGS WERE TO TURN OUT. Kutner also almost went! And I'd forgotten how much I loved Awesome Old Dude. He should hang out with Bobby and Iroh. And also Auron, who somehow falls into the 'awesome old dude' category despite being in his thirties. Oh, Final Fantasy, you and your absurdly low average character age.

- I have now watched 'I Shall Believe' and 'Suddenly Everything Has Changed' (oh, One Tree Hill, you and your ridiculous episode titles), on the One Tree Hill DVDs that mysteriously turned up at my door (who could possibly have ordered them? It must have been some sort of mistake), and, okay, Brooke is amazing. I had not quite realised how amazing Brooke was. She is massively amazing.

I'm still 'shipping Lucas/Peyton, though. Ha, [livejournal.com profile] wanttobeatree. (Although I'm also 'shipping Lucas/Brooke and Lucas/Haley and Lucas/Nathan and I'm teetering dangerously close to 'shipping Lucas/Keith and Lucas/Karen as well, so that's not really saying much. Lucas is apparently one of those characters I 'ship with everyone. Or possibly One Tree Hill is just one of those shows in which everyone/everyone else is clearly the truth.)

I am actually slightly more embarrassed about watching One Tree Hill than I was about High School Musical. Despite the fact that they are the same thing. LUCAS AND NATHAN MISS BASKETBALL HOOPS TO REPRESENT THEIR ANGST. THEY ARE TROY BOLTON. BOTH OF THEM.

In related news, I cannot watch a basketball sequence in anything without playing 'Get'cha Head in the Game' or 'Now or Never' in my head. You can imagine Dan shouting 'Come on, boy; come on, boy, come on!' in time to the music, can't you? Well, er, I can.

- I have actually written a few snippets of a Prison Break real-person fic in which Michael Scofield is a real person and has no idea that what he believes is his real life is being filmed for television. And the sinister Director kidnaps the other actors' loved ones in order to force them to keep up the deception, and Dominic is slowly becoming more and more genuinely attached to his fake brother, and this is a terrible idea.
rionaleonhart: okami: amaterasu is startled. (NOT SO FAST)
I have finished the third season of Prison Break! And then I watched 'Between Takes', little segments of the actors talking about the show and clips of them when out of character.

The main thing I noticed, apart from Chris Vance kissing random dudes and how weird it is to see Jodi Lyn O'Keefe not being evil and how massively weird it is to hear Robert Knepper speaking without a southern accent, was that Wentworth Miller did not have a segment. In fact, I am not sure he appears in the out-of-character clips from any of the other segments.

The only conclusion I can reasonably draw is that Wentworth Miller does not, in fact, exist. There really is a Michael Scofield, and he really does believe that his family is in danger and he has to break people out of prison, but everyone else in his life is an actor. Even his beloved brother. Poor, poor Scofield. I hope he never finds out. (You should probably let him know that all the people who have supposedly died because of him aren't really dead, Prison Break creators, but don't tell him that his entire life has been a lie. It would be cruel.)

I'm not sure how to explain his appearance in Buffy, though. That pretty obviously was not Michael Scofield.

NO, WAIT, I HAVE THE ANSWER: Michael Scofield briefly dabbled in acting, before 'Lincoln' (obviously Prison Break was conceived of long ago and Dominic Purcell has been playing Scofield's brother since Scofield was born) was arrested and everything went to hell. 'Wentworth Miller' was the pseudonym he used. The Prison Break creators decided to use this pseudonym in the credits to give the impression that this was simply the actor Wentworth Miller, rather than a poor unfortunate man who had no idea what was going on.

I don't know why I didn't realise this before.
